I wrote this note to myself on 9th June 2015. A day before I turned 25
So. Last day of 24. Here are a few things you need to remember, going into the big 25.
- Happiness is as abstract as sadness. They both last for long enough.
- Idealism fades faster when working in a business.
- Conversations are the one constant reminder of the life that one wants to lead. The one thing that has kept you going, is the fact that you talked. When you didn’t, you lost.
- Lethargy is omnipresent. But you have realized that it doesn’t suit you as much as you’d like.
- Dance is your biggest ego boost. You changed when you weren’t dancing.
- You are more apologetic than necessary. Fine line between respectful and apologetic, find it.
- Make yourself available for fun. It is very easy to give in to self-loathing and lock yourself up.
- Your mother, unknowingly makes you feel like the best person in the world, even when she’s telling you to clean your room. Tell her more often how she makes you feel and how many times you look at her and think she’s the most beautiful woman ever.
- You have missed having younger sibling and want to fill the void by pampering non-existent pets. You need to live with pets. Your capacity to love is being unused.
- Make plans, and stick to them. You work best when you self-instruct, with few external directives.
- You have felt betrayed, unloved, alone and fragile. And its okay to feel all those things. No, you don’t need to rise from the ashes. You’re no Phoenix. You’re you.
- Be a little selfish. You aren’t good at it. Some people may feel otherwise. But the few times you have actually put yourself before others, you have felt liberated and powerful. And you like that feeling.
- Make up your mind sooner. You spend a lot of time contemplating consequences. Especially when your decision impacts others.
- Last of all, don’t hold back. Be it your thoughts, emotions, opinions or just your badassery.
You have grown up, my friend, and you have grown into your ‘self’. Surround yourself with love. Do the things that are on your mind. But remember where you came from, the people who brought you here. And always, always, smile, you’re much better with it.
